Diagnostic assessment

  • The assessment will gather information about your abilities and your childhood.
  • The information is gathered through conversation and observation. It will last about 2 hours.
  • The ADOS-2 and ADIR-R tests are part of the assessment. These are the gold standard tests recommended by NICE.
  • I will speak with you within 7 days to give you the result of the assessment. You will get a written report within 14 days that clearly states if a diagnosis is made.
  • Autism Pathfinder is all about going beyond diagnosis so the report will also contain recommendations about options and possible next steps.
  • The fee for a full diagnostic assessment is £1750

If you are anxious about assessment…

The prospect may seem stressful, so my aim is to put you at your ease. I will work with you to complete the assessment in a trouble free way and be sensitive to your needs. You can let me know about those when we make an appointment.

Frequently asked questions

How can I get an assessment?

Please contact us and we will get back to you within one week to discuss your needs and make arrangements. If you have a preference for telephone or email communication please do say so in the contact form.

How long will I have to wait to get an assessment?

We will do our best to arrange a time that suits you as quickly as possible. We know that difficulties drive people to seek assessment and we want to help you to begin to resolve those difficulties just as soon as possible. We will tell you if there is a wait time for assessment when we first contact you. Please contact us.

How long will I wait between the assessment and getting the result?

The assessment process is complex and we need quite a lot of time to analyse the information. We aim to give you a verbal account of the diagnostic results within 7 days, and to get the report to you within two weeks.

Do I have to have a full assessment?

No, in fact it suits many people to first have an initial consultation. In that hour you can explain to Peter your reasons for thinking about autism, and discuss the options available to you. You may decide that a full diagnostic assessment is not for you, and that there is a better route to take.
